The Federation was formed in 1983 by 30 of the Model Boat Clubs then active in Scotland.
Its purpose was to bring together the Scottish Clubs, to help co-ordinate Club events nationally and to provide support services (insurance etc.) to affiliated clubs.
The primary aim of the Federation is to support and further all aspects of model boating in Scotland.
The Federation is a non-profit organisation and its affairs are managed in accordance with a Constitution by an elected Committee including 2 representatives from each Club.

Membership of the Federation is open to all Model Boat Clubs regardless of their size or particular interests.
Affiliated Clubs remain autonomous; the Federation only recommends competition rules and provides support and insurance to the Clubs
Individual persons may also become affiliates of the Federation, thereby gaining the benefit of third party insurance
